I have learned that individual development and contribution needs to be supported if we want to get the best out of and from people.

Organisational fit is a great starting point but individual development opportunities are what makes organisations tick and thrive and goes some way to encouraging employees to stay.

I have had the good fortune to work for some exceptional businesses. They might best be described as can-do in their culture and  their values.

Unsurprisingly they have tended to attract can-do people.

The Cando mnemonic says a little about what we do, not to people but with them: sitting beside them, listening, sharing, supporting and sometimes challenging whilst providing a process or framework which is supportive.

Some of the organisations I have worked for have relied on very formal career structures.. Others have been much more ‘sink or swim’. Career transitions can be challenging and organisations, at times, unforgiving.

Coaching can help provide a new perspective, if it is highly personalised and tailored to your needs. That’s what I endeavour to do, be it in coaching, assessment and development or helping people explore new opportunities.

As an experienced international HR practitioner I continue to learn from organisations, colleagues and clients, build my experience whilst seeing individuals grow and develop. That’s why I value coaching and development. After all they are one in the same.
